How To Market Yourself A Brilliant Career

Dear Friend,

Let’s face it: the 88,000 hours the majority of us spend working could be an everlasting nightmare.

Are you always in a daydream, wondering what it would be like to follow a different path? How many years have you spent making your ends meet? Wandering around in an unhappy trance devastated that this could be all there is for you?

Maybe you have already decided that enough is enough, so you're now making the change before it’s too late.

But where do you start? Changing jobs is scary! Where do you begin with jobs and career recruitment with so much information out there?

Career changing, landing a role you love, and getting paid for it is possible. It’s not just a dream. Even if you have at present a nhs career and are now seeking golf career advice, it is achievable. (Maybe a little more challenging, but I've helped people with harder goals.)

However, it's easier to dream about winning the lottery than to think about personally marketing a career, which, statistically by the way, is much more possible.

You see, the trouble is you are actually too busy doing something you hate. Let's think about that for a moment. Are you stuck in a rut? Is it easier to just stay where you are because it's harder to find work these days, or it’s tough out there, and the competition is fierce. Sure, but haven't jobs, career, work and recruitment always been like that?

The difference now is people who are hiring have raised their standards and expectations, yet the people looking have missed this because they have been busy working.

When you apply, so do another 30 people. There are letters; online searches, CVs, interviews, presentations, aptitude tests and enough opinions out there that tell you their way is the right way.

Think about it for a minute. When you are in career crisis, do your personal career marketing tactics include finding your dream job online in an hour before something good comes on the telly? As you click away, you soon realise this is a much bigger job than you thought.

Close, close, shut down, turn off computer, pick up remote control.

I want to help you. My name is Dawn Barclay, and over the years I’ve worked with hundreds of individuals helping them build careers. This has involved creative courses, training, coaching and careers advice.

Along with that, and more importantly, I have worked with employers and recruitment agencies, and I know there are huge differences from what's being offered and what's being hired.
